Duncan C. Sorli, a long time resident of Chelmsford and devoted husband of Christle (Hutchings) Sorli, father to Duncan, Christopher, and Brita, and proud Papa to Duncan, Lilia, Hayden, Jeni, Kya, and Bryn, passed unexpectedly on March 23, 2021.

Duncan was raised in Billerica, a graduate of Northeastern University, a Mechanical Engineer at Polaroid Corp. for most of his career, and forever a tinkerer. His greatest joy was his time spent with his family and four legged children; especially, his beloved Jessie and Fancy. Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park held a special place in his heart. Duncan was always there to lend a hand in coaching his children’s sports teams and later watching his grandchildren on the court, field, and stage. His children, grandchildren, other family members and neighbors will miss his gentle and supportive nature, warm smile, love, and unsurpassed kindness.

There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Duncan’s memory can be made to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970 or

Dear Duncan's Family.. Please give my Condolences to Duncan's Family I will miss Duncan and remember him for ever. I played with him as a child and when I was in College I use to met him in Boston when he got out of work most every day. He knew some of my friends at the Tech House house. I only had three 1st. cousin's on my Mom's side and he was my Uncle Gordon's Son we were very close until he had his own family. He was as Great Dad and loved his three children. He came to WOBURN a lot to see my Mom and me. He always remembered his Aunt Ruth when she went to the Nursing Home at 97 yrs and pasted away there. God Bless with love Patricia Sorli - Morton - (Carpenter)

Our family is deeply saddened to hear of Duncans passing. Our dog walking paths crossed several times a week and we always loved our Duncan chats. One of my favorite memories of Duncan is seeing him at the end of Thomas sitting on his favorite rock with Jessie by his side. I will forever call that rock the “Duncan rock” and think of him when I sit there peacefully with my dog.
Duncan absence in our neighborhood it will be felt by many. Seeing the two walk always side by side always made me smile. We will cherish his memory for many years to come.
Sending our heartfelt condolences to Crystle, Brita, and the entire family.
Love, The Priestly Family (Melanie&Ted)

Thanks Melanie. Whenever I couldn’t find him in the neighborhood I would look for him at Jessie’s snack rock. 😊

Dear Christle,
I was so saddened to learn of Duncan's passing. My prayers is with you. I have such fond memories of his visiting you at d'Youville with Jessie. He was so attentive and faithful and continued even after your return home. I appreciated the occasional notes to bring me up to date. May Duncan now be at peace with his God and may you receive much peace as you mourn his loss.
An old friend from d'Youville,
Sr. Pauline Leblanc

Thank you Sister Pauline. Mom always spoke fondly of you and how you made her more comfortable during a very challenging time. Thank you sincerely. She is now happily with my dad.

Oh Duncan,
What a sweet and kind pleasure you were, to chat with, whenever we crossed paths down at Roberts Field! As I think back, we discussed many, many topics, together, while Jesse & Fenway sniffed around! It’s funny how acquaintances from different generations can form a bond, encouraging one another through the ups and downs that life brings, in the most unexpected of locales. You were, most certainly, proud of your children, grandchildren and educator wife! I will miss running into this lover of nature and animals, and very positive, appreciative gentleman. Thank you. Peace be with you. Sheila Doherty

Thank you Sheila. Robert’s field will never be the same to us. So many happy memories with him there - skating, walking, playground with us and the grandkids and of course with his dear Jessie. He valued all of his friends and conversations there so much.
