Obituary

HULSLANDER - Greta “Irene” (Berry) Hulslander, 95, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Westford House Nursing Home. She had been married for 67 years to the late Ralph J. Hulslander, Jr. who died in 2014. Irene is survived by her son, Ralph Hulslander, III and his wife Marilyn of Pepperell.

Irene was a graduate of Lowell High School and afterward she completed a two year course at Bradshaw Business school. She served in the United States Navy during WWII. She was employed for over 20 years as a secretary in the guidance office at Nashoba Technical High School. She had previously worked for the Chelmsford News Weekly. Irene was a past member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Lowell, and All Saints Episcopal Church in Chelmsford. An avid golfer, Irene was a member of Mount Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell. She also loved spending time working in her garden.

The true joy in her life, however, was the love of her grandchildren; Dawn Higgins and her husband Matthew of Winterville, NC, Jeffrey Hulslander and his wife Abra of Groton, MA, and Kathrin Osterberg and her husband Paul of West Boylston, MA, and six great-grandchildren; Katelyn, Cole and Chloe Higgins, Jack and Emma Hulslander and Alexander Osterberg.

She also leaves her sister, Nathalie Ganley of New Jersey, sister-in-law Irene Hurst of Florida, her cherished goddaughter, Debra Kleisch, and many nieces and nephews as well as her very dear and close friend, Dee Loiselle.

She was pre-deceased by one brother, James R. Berry, and three sisters, Edna Hedlund, Muriel Kleisch and Betty Egan.

Irene’s family gratefully acknowledges the love and care of the staffs at Chelmsford Crossings, Visiting Angels, and most especially the Westford House.

Visiting hours will be on Friday from 5-7pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:30am at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately. Memorial contributions in Greta's name may be made to Lowell Sun Santa Fund, 491 Dutton Street, Lowell, MA 01854.
