Obituary

Donald Dexter Mugford, Sr., 91, of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Don was born in Chelsea, MA on December 8, 1929 and had resided in Chelmsford since 1966. Don is survived by his daughter Karen M. Drew of Hershey, PA; son Donald D. Mugford, Jr. of Chelmsford; granddaughters Lindsay Drew of Hershey, PA and Kayla Drew of Conshohocken, PA and his great-grandsons Chase and Conor.

Don was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Janice Ruth (Gillette) Mugford; his granddaughter Jessica Drew; his parents Ben and Florence Mugford; six brothers Tom, John, Ben, Fred, and Buck, and many other beloved family members.

A veteran, Don served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Missouri from 1947-1950. Following his service, he was the Assistant Transportation Manager at Boston Cadillac-Olds for ten years before becoming an Ironworker and member of the Boston Local 7 Ironworker’s Union for 32 years until his retirement in 1992. In his spare time, Don was a talented craftsman and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Tyngsboro Sportsman's Club, as well as a lifetime member of the Chelmsford Elks Lodge.

He loved all animals, especially his cats Kayleigh and Little One, who brought him so much joy. He also took great pride in being a grandfather, affectionately known as ‘Bub’, to his three granddaughters and two great-grandsons who adored him.

Don had a gift for humor, always able to make people laugh, and will be greatly missed by his family who take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his love, Janice, and his beloved granddaughter, Jessica.

A private memorial will be held by family. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations in Don’s memory to The Jessica Drew Sunshine Memorial Fund, 73 Carousel Circle, Hershey, PA 17033, the Lowell Humane Society, or the High Point Hospice House in Haverhill, MA.

I was so sad to hear the news, I know Larry is excited to see him again. Larry would tell great stories of his Uncle Donny & the fun they had working together. My deepest sympathy to the entire Mugford Family.
