Obituary

Albert J. Hanley, a long-time resident of Chelmsford, passed away, at 88, on January 21, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Carol (Healey) Hanley, to whom he was married for 61 years.

Albert was born in Providence, RI, on March 26, 1932, to Albert and Marguerite Hanley.

Before attending Boston College, where Albert achieved a BS in Business Administration and Finance in 1956, he grew up in Warwick, RI. Albert proudly served his country in the US Army from 1956 to 1958 before an honorable discharge. While in the Army, he served in Oberammergau, Germany, as part of the Nuclear Weapons School. Albert was employed as a contract administrator by the Raytheon Company, where he retired after 43 years. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 9275 where he specifically enjoyed participating in all events for disabled children. Albert and Carol were long-time members of the Alpine Squares dance club.

Albert was a loving father and devoted grandfather who immensely enjoyed the successes of each child and grandchild. In addition to his loving wife, Albert is survived by his children and grandchildren, Christina Dwyer-Messina and her husband, Carl Messina and their children Meaghan Dwyer, and Erin Dwyer and his wife, Emily Dwyer; the late Angela Butt and her husband, David Butt and their children Anna Butt, and Gretchen Butt and her husband, Corey Rossignol; and Stephen Hanley and his wife, Maureen Hanley and their children Madeleine Hanley, John Hanley, and Kathleen Hanley. Albert was predeceased by his sister Alice Sheahan.

Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD.

Due to gathering limitations, funeral services and interment will be held privately. You are kindly invited to view the Mass of Christian Burial live on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Parish, CHELMSFORD.

Mrs. Hanley, Chris, and Stephen -
I'm sorry to hear of Mr. Hanley's passing. I have so many memories of growing up on Gelding Road, and remember Mr. Hanley as gentle & kind. I vividly remember his 3 kids' excitement when he'd arrive home from a day at work, and his big smiles as they'd run to greet him. May treasured memories hold him close in your memories.
