CARLISLE - Walter A. Jones, Jr., 63, a longtime resident of Carlisle, died Friday, April 8th 2011 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He passed after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Walter was the beloved husband of Elaine (Seferles) Jones, to whom he was happily married for 39 years.
He was born in Everett on December 4, 1947, a son of Phyllis Krueger of S. Dartmouth and the late Walter Jones. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The University of Massachusetts at Lowell and his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.
A highly talented and accomplished engineer, Walter began his career at Prime Computer, Inc. and would eventually earn the title of Vice President of Engineering. He later went on to work for several local companies throughout his career in various management and engineering capacities, most recently as a manager for the Center for Atmospheric Research at UMASS Lowell. He also held three patents on systems that he created.
In his free time he was an avid golfer, a talented artist, and a lover of rock music. His most treasured times were the summers he spent on Cape Cod with his family.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Damon Jones and his wife Ithwa of Boston; a daughter Audra Jones of Boston; a sister, Virginia Davis and her husband Harry of Foxborough; three brothers, Christopher Jones and his wife Sonia of Leicester, Jeffrey Jones and his wife Leslie of Texas, and Mark Jones and his wife Sonia of S. Dartmouth; and several nephews.
Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Tuesday from 4 until 8pm. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 o'clock at the funeral home. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Emerson Healthcare Foundation, 133 Old Road to Nine Acre Corner, Concord, MA 01742 (Please specify Oncology/Hematology Dept.) or to the Carlisle Fire Department, 80 Westford St., Carlisle, MA 01741.
