Obituary for William "Bill" Tambo

William (Bill) Tambo, age 87, a longtime Chelmsford resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine Tambo with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.

He was born on March 22, 1934 in Somerville, New Jersey and was the son of the late John and Olivia (ne Papacena) Tambo.

Bill was raised in NJ before going off to Michigan State University where he met the love of his life, “Jo” and received his master’s degree. Following Michigan state, together they moved to Colorado where Bill received his doctorate degree from the University of Colorado. After a time spent living and working in Colorado, they moved to Chelmsford to begin raising a family.

While in Chelmsford, Bill worked as a chemical engineer at Cabot Corporation, ENSR and his own consulting firm for a time managing high profile environmental and construction projects. Actively involved in the town, he helped start the Chelmsford Youth Soccer program, was an early member of the Chelmsford Swim and Tennis Club and a lifetime member of the Lowell Sportsman Club. Following retirement from his professional career, Bill continued his pursuit of education by becoming an adjunct professor at Middlesex Community College.

As a life-long outdoorsman, Bill loved hiking in the White Mountains and sailing the coastal waters of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. A proud milestone for him was earning his charter captain’s license which allowed him to start a charter sailing business for couples and small groups. Sharing his love of the sea and sailing knowledge he would involve his passengers in the sailing process and recount stories of his many years boating New England waters. Bill also loved spending time with his family on Nantucket where he enjoyed surf casting, clamming, taking long beach walks, and watching sunsets. When on mainland, he loved to putter in his yard and spend time with family and friends. He loved to also spend time with and educate his grandchildren as they grew up, reveling in their activities and outlook on life.

Bill leaves his two children; Andrea Leigh Parsons of Templeton, MA and Craig William Tambo of Chelmsford, MA; his grandchildren Shawn-Douglas William Parsons, Aubrey Elizabeth Parsons, Jenna Nicole Parsons, Riley Jane Tambo, and Sydney Amelia Tambo. He also leaves behind cousins and nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly and with all his heart.

Sadly, he is predeceased by his loving wife Josephine Tambo, and beloved sister Patricia Hale, as well as his son-in-law Jason Theodore Parsons.

Funeral Services and Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift in Bill’s memory to The Trustees of Reservations to help preserve the wild land he loved so much. thetrustees.org/, 200 High Street Boston, MA, 02110 (978)-921-1944.
