Obituary for W. Scott Macomber

W. Scott Macomber, 50, of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2023, after complications from a brain tumor. He was the beloved husband of Jynnifer Macomber for the past 21 years and a devoted, loving father to their two beautiful sons, Phoenix and Levi.

Scott grew up in Southborough, MA where he attended Algonquin Regional High School. He was the editor of the school paper, The Harbinger and an avid reader & author. Scott attended the University of Rochester, NY earning a Bachelor of Science. Following graduation his adventurous spirit led him to Seattle, WA where he met and fell in love with Jyn. There, he continued his passion for the written word and supporting his artistic community creating Literature for the Masses (LTFM), a free, nonprofit zine that featured the works of local artists, poets, writers and photographers. It is estimated that over 10,000 copies of LFTM were given out during its run. Scott & Jyn returned to Massachusetts where they settled in Chelmsford and started their family. Scott earned his Master of Education at American University and fulfilled his lifelong love of teaching students. Scott was a longtime member of the MTA. He spent 15 years as the Reading & Writing Specialist and 3rd grade teacher at the Morse Elementary School in Cambridge, followed by joining the Blanchard Memorial School in Boxborough as a 6th grade teacher where he worked until his passing. Scott was a member of Wednesday Night Militia, a band he created with his dearest friends which was a source of great joy as well as a wonderful creative outlet. Scott has written and published numerous works of fiction, including screenplays, poems, short stories and plays. He was a creative spirit, a lover of nature, an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed his close circle of friends immensely and loved spending time with his family, especially his two boys, Phoenix & Levi.

In addition to his loving wife and children, Scott leaves his parents, Carolyn MacLeod of Westborough, MA, and Patrick Macomber and Helene Hanrahan of West Hartford, CT; his sister, Ashley Snow Macomber and brother-in-law Oliver Hall of Los Angeles, CA, and his sisters, Chelsea Macomber of St. Petersburg, FL and Samantha Macomber of Nashville, TN. Scott is predeceased by his brother, Joshua Macomber of Bolton, CT and his stepfather, Joseph E. MacLeod of Westborough, MA.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 1-4 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. His Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, October 9, at 1 pm at All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Billerica Road, Chelmsford. Kindly gather at the church. Interment will be held privately. Memorial donations may be made in Scott’s name to, the largest nonprofit music program in the US Public School system, that offers education, instruction and instruments to children in need…of rocking out!
