Obituary for William Francis Fitzpatrick

William F. Fitzpatrick, age 79, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away at peace, having lived a full life with his loving family as a faithful servant to God.

He was the husband of beloved wife, Patricia A. (Yukna) Fitzpatrick with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. He was born in Brockton on October 3, 1942 and was the son of the late William and Molly (Dwyer) Fitzpatrick.

“Billy Fitz”, born of Irish immigrants, was raised in the north end of Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School (BHS) with the Class of 1960. Growing up, Bill cherished his tight-knit family, and it was here that he established the core values that would become his bedrock and guide him throughout life. Faith, Family, Hope, Love, Loyalty, Humility, Optimism, Selflessness, Volunteerism, Kindness and Thankfulness…are just a few of the principles that defined Bill’s ideals.

Bill often recounted fond memories of his early years “working hard and playing hard” with family and close friends in the Brockton area. He lived life to the fullest and during his BHS Senior year, he met his special ‘60 classmate Patricia.

Bill went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Boston College, graduating in 1964. He was a proud BC Eagle Alumni, always in-tune with the community and stayed active both on and off campus. His BC education launched his 40+ year career in the defense industry working for United Technologies and Raytheon. He dedicated his profession to providing innovative systems for the men and women of our Armed Forces.

After moving to Chelmsford in 1969, as he continued his career he started a family and became active in the local community and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He taught Sunday School for many years, volunteered with Down Syndrome children and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Bill was passionate about the Sox, the Pats and the entire Boston sports scene. He enjoyed Irish food/culture/music and of course an occasional pint! Most of all, Bill cherished the countless adventures with his family during summers on Cape Cod. He loved creating strong family traditions that still live on today through his Legacy and his “Beloved Fitz Kids”. Bill’s quest to stay active and engaged in the community continued to his very last day.

Billy Fitz (our Beloved “FitzDad”) leaves his sister Maureen (Fitzpatrick) Anctil, children William (Jen), Timothy (Kathleen) and Meghan (Jeff); Grandkids Ashley, Emily, Lauren, Connor, Reilly and Casey; and many nieces and nephews.

“Billy Fitz”, you’ve inspired us all and had a tremendous impact on all our lives. We are forever in your debt for your unwavering commitment, selfless devotion and truly wonderful example you set for us, your humble “FitzFam”…through which your legacy and core values will always live. “Be Kind, have fun, work hard and learn a lot. Dedication, honesty, integrity, keep exploring, stay curious”. -FITZDAD

“His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matthew 25:23)

Funeral services and interment will be held privately on Cape Cod.
