Obituary for William P. "Bill" Cullen Jr.

William “Bill” P. Cullen, Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital with his treasured family by his side. He was born December 28, 1938 in Boston to the late William P. Cullen, Sr., and Josephine (McCarthy) Cullen. He was a Massachusetts resident with homes and friends in Chelmsford, Cape Cod and Naples, FL.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Beverly (Flanagan) Cullen and two sons, William E. Cullen and his wife Denise of Westford and Robert P. Cullen and his wife Patricia of Westford. Bill was also known as “Beepa” by his grandchildren, Patrick, Kaitlyn, Jake, and Mia Cullen.

Bill graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and furthered his education at Newman Prep and Boston University. He served in and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy.

Bill’s professional life held many pursuits and endeavors, including his auto equipment business with his special friend Charles Boiardi, real estate, and investments. Bill was an idea man and often suggested ideas for others to follow through on. He was generous to all he knew. He was a complex man of strength, stature, and generosity.

Bill was an avid sports fan and held membership in the Antique Classic Cadillac Club and numerous golf clubs in MA and FL. Bill especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, gatherings around the dinner table, memorable trips to Disney with the family and his Sunday drives in his antique cars.

Bill is survived by his wife, children, brother James M. Cullen and his wife Caroline of Bridgewater, brother-in-law Edward M. Flanagan and wife Barbara of Tewksbury, along with many adored nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Patricia L’Heaureux and her husband Charles, sisters-in-law Judith MacPhee, Jacqueline Hilla and her husband Paul Hilla, and by a special niece and nephew Bonnie and Paul Hilla.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 8:00 am – 10:00 am at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 am following the visitation at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
