Obituary for Thomas George Gianacakes (Gianacakes)

Groton, MA - Thomas George Gianacakes, formerly of Louisville, KY, died peacefully at the age of 96 on November 19, 2018.

He resided at Rivercourt Residences, Groton, and became an integral part of their caring community. A World War II Marine Veteran, recipient of four purple hearts, and a bronze medal, he served his country, family, and community with honor. He was a lifetime member of the Ahepa and the American Legion #102.

Thomas’s career post-wartime, was dedicated to the operation of the family business, Old 4th Avenue Candy Shop in Louisville. He was especially known for his homemade chili and beautifully packaged candies.

He is survived by his daughter, Yiota Simoglou (Andrew), grandchildren, Christopher (Claire), Stephen (Leah) a great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Julia Drivas and four siblings.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 24 at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, Lowell, MA followed by his Funeral Service beginning at 10 o'clock. Interment in Lowell Cemetery, LOWELL.
