Obituary for Susan Marie Devlin (Kramer)

Susan Marie (Kramer) Devlin, age 90, a resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard “Dick” Devlin with whom she shared 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2017.

She was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1932, to Florence (Westendorf) and George Kramer, Sr.

Susan attended Holy Angels Grade School and graduated from Julienne High School in Dayton, Ohio in 1950. She earned a B.S. in Home Economics from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, IN in 1954. Susan completed her dietetic internship at Saint Luke’s Hospital in New York City and was employed as a dietician at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio until the time of her marriage in September 1956.

Susan met her husband Richard on a blind date and married six months later. They lived in Philadelphia PA, Glen Burnie MD, Newton Upper Falls, MA and eventually settled in Sudbury, MA to raise their four children. She was a 40-year member of the Sacred Heart Book club. She also worked part-time as a librarian at the Saxonville Library and the Wayland High School library. Susan was an active member of Saint Anselm’s Parish and participated in many bible study groups. Susan and her husband retired to New London, NH and spent almost 20 years enjoying their choir at Our Lady of Fatima, golfing and cross-country skiing. Susan was a member of the Eastmanaires and loved singing performances. She had a deep devotion to the rosary and her prayer life. Susan’s tenderness and kindness were her hallmark to everyone.

Susan leaves her children, Lucy (Devlin) McNamara of Westwood, Richard Devlin Jr. of Chelmsford, Julie (Devlin) Olivier and her husband Jim of Westford, and Amy (Devlin) White and her husband Leo of Mont Vernon, NH; her twelve grandchildren, Ricky, Chris, Daniel, Anna Lee, Tim, Joe, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Greg, Bridget, Emma, and Tess; her two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Freddie; and her sister, Sister Constance Kramer, S.P.

She was preceded in death by her parents Florence and George Kramer, Sr., and siblings Mary Kramer Leonard, George Kramer Jr., Anne Kramer Nahn, William Jude Kramer, Karen Kramer Baker, Sister Julie Kramer S.P., and twin stillborn brothers John and Joseph.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 3pm - 6pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10am at St. Anne Parish, 75 King St., Littleton. KINDLY GATHER AT CHURCH. Interment will be held privately.
