Obituary for Stella T. Penney (Pierro)

Stella T. (Pierro) Penney, 98, a longtime resident of No. Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Graham Penney with whom she shared 73 years of marriage until his passing in 2018.

She was born in Chelmsford on August 15, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina (Simone) Pierro.

Stella grew up in Chelmsford and graduated from Chelmsford High School. After marrying Graham near the end of World War II, they settled in Chelmsford, built a home and raised a family. She also worked in a number of office jobs doing bookkeeping and technical typing. She lived in Chelmsford nearly all of her life and she loved the town, regularly attending mass at St. Mary’s. Stella made friends easily and belonged to many community organizations including the Emblem Club and Red Hat Society. She was very active and enjoyed playing sports including tennis and golf. She was a big fan of all of the local teams, but she loved the Red Sox and loved to criticize the manager. In her later years, she enjoyed playing cards with friends and learned to paint. Family gatherings with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a favorite activity. Stella will be missed by her family and her friends.

Stella is survived by her children, Thomas Penney and his wife Nancy of Littleton, Joe Penney and his wife Edna of Dedham, and Karen Faria and her husband Tom of Westford; her six grandchildren, Sheri Spellwoman, Tara Spellman, Jason Penney, Christopher Penney, Jeff Faria, and Jessica Pooler; and her eleven great-grandchildren.

Sadly, she is predeceased by her daughter, Janet Kennett who passed away March 23, 2018, and her siblings, Anthony Pierro, James Pierro, Irene Longfellow, John Pierro, Rockeen Pierro, Albert Pierro, and Ralph Pierro.

Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 5 -7 pm in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.
