Obituary for Shirley M. Turgiss (Moore)

Shirley (Moore) Turgiss, 91, a longtime resident of North Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter W. “Mike” Turgiss with whom she shared 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2018.

She was born in Richmond, Maine on June 5, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Helen P. (Denham) Moore.

Shirley was raised in Richmond, Maine, where she graduated from Richmond High School with the Class of 1949. After high school, she moved to Woburn to work at the Sheraton Corporation in Boston. She met her husband Mike during this time, and they settled in Chelmsford in 1964. Shirley was active in youth sports, particularly the Chelmsford Hockey Association and Chelmsford Little League, and volunteering for the Booster Clubs. She was a member of Nabnasset Lake Country Club with her husband, where they enjoyed many weekend activities. Summers were enjoyed on the lakes of Maine with her family. She was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Boston sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. After raising her family, Shirley returned to work at WR Grace, where she made many friends. In her spare time Shirley enjoyed going out to lunch and shopping. Most of all, Shirley cherished the time she spent with her beloved family.

Shirley leaves her children, Lynn (Turgiss) Nosek and her husband Michael, Gary Turgiss, Glen Turgiss and his wife Laura, and Greg Turgiss and his wife Michele; her eight grandchildren, Lauryn Nosek, Christopher Nosek, Rebecca (Turgiss) Buckless and her husband Glen, Catherine Turgiss, Bryan Turgiss, Meghan (Turgiss) Viger and her husband Jeff, Jenny (Turgiss) Gray and her husband John, and Kristen (Turgiss) Velazquez and her husband William; and her twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Grace Eves, and several nieces and nephews.

Sadly, she is predeceased by her sister, Jean Broughton, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clyde and Shirley Schufelt.
