Obituary for Sheila M. McCarthy (Tracy)
LOWELL - Sheila M. (Tracy) McCarthy, age 74, died peacefully Friday, February 19, 2021 at Belvidere Healthcare Center. Sheila’s life was forever changed in September of 1982 when she suffered a life changing cerebral hemorrhage. Heroically, her strong faith, spunk, and devilish wit saw her through these many trying years.
Sheila was born in Lowell, on June 23, 1946, daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (McLaughlin) Tracy and was raised in Dracut.
She graduated from Dracut High School, and later earned an Associate’s Degree at Lowell Commercial College. She worked at UMASS Lowell as an Administrative Assistant in the College of Health Professions and earlier worked in a similar capacity at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill. She lived in Lowell and Billerica most of her adult life.
Sheila is survived by her daughter Tracy (McCarthy) Green and her husband Andrew of Chelmsford, her son Todd McCarthy and his wife Amy (Durand) McCarthy, of Brookline NH, five grandchildren: Erin and Leah Green and Grace, Hayden and Jack McCarthy; her sister, Judith (Tracy) Hersey of Chelmsford, her nieces Kathleen Logan, Lynne Ware, and Justine Hersey; her nephew Thomas Hersey and her former husband John McCarthy.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her companion and faithful caregiver for 25 years, Wilfred Jean, who died in February, 2015.
