Obituary for Sandra N. Roberts (Nelson)

On Monday, January 4th, 2021 Sandra Roberts passed away peacefully at Brigham Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 81 years old. Sandra was known as “MiMi” to her family and “Sandy” to her many friends. Sandy was born in Pawtucket, RI in June of 1939 to Eleanor and Alden Nelson. She received her undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1961 and her Graduate Degree in Psychology from Assumption College in Worcester, MA in 1982. On June 30th 1962 Sandy married her High School Sweet-Heart, David S. Roberts. Together they raised two children, Leisha and David T. Sandy went on to work for Northern Essex Community College in the 80’s and was the Director of their Center for Business and Industry for many years until her retirement in 1998.

Sandy was an extraordinary Woman, a loving Wife, an exceptional Mother and Grandmother, and an amazing Friend to the many who were fortunate to have known her. She was brilliant, vivacious, creative, and talented. Sandy truly loved many things in addition to her family and friends. She loved flowers and gardening and served several years as the President of the Open Gate Garden Club. MiMi enjoyed painting landscapes and taking long beach walks with her sister, Lenore. She loved travel and all the adventures that go with it. She was an avid reader and had a great fondness for music and a lovely singing voice. She enjoyed sailing and skiing with her family and friends. Most important of all, Sandy loved to help people. Sandy was the first phone call you made when things went wrong. She was the person you went to when you were hurting or in crisis. Sandy would know what to do. Sandy would always make it better somehow. Her ability to help and to heal was the greatest of her many “Super-Powers” and for that, and all her many other talents, she will be dearly, dearly missed.

Sandy is predeceased by her parents Alden and Eleanor Nelson, her brother Alden “Budge” Nelson and her daughter Leisha Roberts Monahan. She is survived by her loving Husband of 58 years, David S. Roberts, her sister Lenore Christie, her son David T. Roberts, her granddaughter Jessica Monahan and her son in law Michael Monahan.

Sandy was laid to rest in Pine Ridge Cemetery on Friday, January 8th with her immediate family in attendance. In the future, when conditions allow us all to gather again, there will be a Celebration of Life to honor and remember her. Until then, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation at alz.org and the National Aphasia Association at aphasia.org.
