Obituary for Rita May Richardson (Lena)

Rita May (Lena) Richardson, 80, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, recently of Litchfield, NH passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Derry Rehabilitation Center, Derry, NH surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by the love of her life Richard Carey.

She was born in Everett, MA and was the daughter of the late Leonard and Jenny (Perkins) Lena.

Rita was raised in Wilmington and attended Wilmington High School. She worked for 8 years for the Wilmington Police Department as a police officer. She then settled in Chelmsford where she lived for 40 years. She worked at many places including Sweetheart Plastics, Macom in Burlington, and for Tyco as a quality control inspector. In her spare time she enjoyed camping, the beach, reading Danielle Steele novels, and feeding the birds and squirrels in her backyard. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.


Rita leaves her daughters; Kim Richardson and Paul Gracia of Chester, NH, and Christine Dresser and her husband Robert of Litchfield, NH, her grandchildren; Danielle Herder and her husband Mike of Crested Butte, CO, Amanda Savage and her husband Chris of Chandler, AZ, and Robert Dresser and his fiancé Amanda Lynn of Jaffery, NH, her great-grandchildren Caleb and Julia Herder, and Carson Dresser, her brothers; Richard Lena and his wife Fab of Tewksbury, and William Lena of Litchfield, NH, and her sisters-in-law Pat Lena of Wilmington, Cheryl Lena of Billerica, and Tina Lena of Sturbridge. She also is survived by Richard’s children; Elaine and John Morton of FL, Alan and Robin Carey of Townsend and their children and grandchildren, Jay Carey of CT, Gail Carey of CT and their children and grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and her lifelong best friend Beverly Trow of Maryland.

In addition to the love of her life, Richard Carey, Rita is predeceased by her brothers Fred Lena and Ronald Lena.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, March 26, from 3 – 6 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her funeral services will be held privately.
