Obituary for Richard J. DeRosas

Richard J. DeRosas, age 90, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, formerly of Arlington, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Sunny Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chelmsford, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian I. (Frenette) DeRosas.

He was born in Arlington, MA on February 19, 1931, and was a son of the late Ricardo and Esther (Coffey) DeRosas.

He spent his early childhood in New York City. As a teenager he moved to Arlington and graduated from Arlington High. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps in 1952. He was honorably discharged and attended Boston College earning a bachelor’s degree in education. He began as a teacher and progressed to an assistant principal in Wilmington, primarily at the Woburn Street School, a place that was a second home to him. He always said he was lucky to have a job that he loved because it never felt like work. After his retirement he spent many years with his grandchildren and enjoyed visiting them often. In his free time, you would catch him watching Boston Sports teams.

Richard leaves his children; Darlene DeRosas of Groton, Richard DeRosas of Chelmsford and his son, Richard Jr. of Florida, John DeRosas of Bedford, his wife Karen (O’Neil) and their children Katherine, Shannon and Jack, and Christine (DeRosas) Crawford and her husband Peter of Shirley and their sons Adam and Alex.

He also leaves his brother Ramon DeRosas and his wife Marcia from Arlington, a brother James DeRosas from Memphis, Tennessee, his sister in-law Veronica (Frenette) Hayes and her husband Robert of Peabody, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Dolores (DeRosas) Cunha.

Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Funeral Services and Interment will be held privately.
