Obituary for Nikolas Charles Sperounis

Nikolas Charles Sperounis, age 18, a lifelong resident of Chelmsford, passed away at Boston Children's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Angiosarcoma, on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

He was born in Lowell on August 31, 2004 and was the beloved son of Charles B. and Mary (Hennessey) Sperounis.

Nik was a 2023 graduate of Chelmsford High School. At CHS he was a three sport athlete: Captain of the Football team, Captain of the Wrestling team and member of the Lacrosse team. During football season he received the Henry J. Smith Courage Award from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. He was also chosen as part of the mentor program at Chelmsford High.

The beach was his happy place. Spending time in Seabrook with the “boys of summer” and vacationing each year in Cape Cod with his family brought him much happiness. He always looked forward to watching the sunset over the ocean.

He enjoyed hiking, camping and fishing, with his dad, brother, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his loving parents, Nikolas is survived by his older brother Joe St.Hilaire, who he admired and looked up to; his sister Tricia Sperounis who he shared a special bond that could never be broken; his puppy Bruno, who he loved dearly; his Grammy Helen Hennessey who he cherished; his uncle Jimmy “Jimbo” Hennessey who was like a second dad; his cousins Michael & Bobby who were like his brothers; his loving uncles Joe and John Hennessey; his aunts Shelagh, Kristi and Erin Hennessey; his aunts Sandy Sperounis, Tina (Mike) Dwyer, and Nickolette Garcia; and his aunts Ginny (Brad) Green, Linda Hennessey, Carol (Ed) Jones, and Nancy (Jim) Jones. He was adored by his cousins Megan, Lauren, Kevin, Aidan, Ryan and Jane Hennessey, Joe, Jason and Jack Garcia, Ryan and Jaime Green, Jenny and Jackie Jones, and Rosie, Brook and James Jones.

Sadly, he was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Joseph F. Hennessey, his paternal grandparents Charles and Patricia Sperounis, and his uncle Alan Hennessey.

We are grateful for the care that was provided by his Dana Farber doctors, Lindsey and Nitin (aka Batman and Robin), and all the staff at the Jimmy Clinic, Children’s Hospital, his VNA nurse Holly and PT Claudia. He received such loving care from everyone.

Nik had a kind heart, infectious laugh, great sense of humor and a beautiful smile; he lit up every room he walked into. Nik will be forever missed by his family, life long friends, Manny, Joey T, Alec and the “boys of summer”. Live for him – NS21
