Obituary for Nikolaos T. Panagiotopoulos

CLEARWATER, FL – Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, 85, a recent resident of Clearwater, FL and a longtime resident of Lowell/Tewksbury, MA, passed away peacefully on Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday, April 16, 2023 in FL, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Anastasia (Limperis) Panagiotopoulos with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

He was born in Kefalovriso, Messinia, Greece on August 5, 1937, and was a son of the late Theodoros and Stavroula (Tsaousi) Panagiotopoulos.

Nikolaos spent his childhood and early adult years in Greece. While in Greece, he served in the Greek Armed Forces for the mandatory military service. In 1966, Nikolaos emigrated to Lowell, MA to join the rest of the Panagiotopoulos family who had already established themselves in the area. Soon after his arrival, Nikolaos met his devoted wife, Anastasia, with whom together they had three children and lived the American Dream pursuing many entrepreneurial opportunities. Nikolaos helped establish various businesses, and eventually opened his renowned Brother’s Pizza Restaurant in Tewksbury, MA in 1978. Not only was he a hard-working business owner, but also, he was a devoted and loving husband and father. Family gatherings were an instrumental part of his life. Nikolaos enjoyed traveling with his family to Greece, and a took a couple memorable trips with his wife to Aruba, Hawaii, and Las Vegas, NV. For the past two decades, Nikolaos and Anastasia would spend the winter months in Clearwater, FL. He was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell, MA.

In addition to his loving wife, Nikolaos is survived by his children, Stavroula Powell and her husband Robert (Bob) of Boxborough, MA, Theodoros Panagiotopoulos and his wife Athina (Nina) of Clearwater, FL, and Joanna P. Tides and her husband Nicholas (Nick) of Palm Harbor, FL; his seven grandchildren, George E. Powell, Justin N. Powell, Nikolaos T. Panagiotopoulos, Georgios T. Panagiotopoulos, Elpida A. Tides, Anastasia M. Tides, and Theadora N. Tides, and his siblings Stavros T. Panagiotopoulos of Dracut, MA, Christina Grillakis of Lowell, MA, Dimitrios T. Panagiotopoulos and his wife Maria of Kefalovriso, Messinia, Greece, Vasilios T. Panagiotopoulos and his wife Christina of Tewksbury, MA, and Costas T. Panagiotopoulos and his wife Kathy of Clearwater, FL.

Nikolaos is also survived by a sister-in-law, Regina Zouharis of Marlboro, MA, brothers-in-law Michael Limperis and his wife Angeliki of Westford, MA and Christos Limperis and his wife Helen of Lady Lake, FL. In addition, he leaves behind dozens of beloved nieces and nephews in the United States and in Greece.

Nikolaos was predeceased by sister-in-law Alexandra Panagiotopoulos of Dracut, MA, brothers-in-law, George Grillakis of Lowell, MA, Angelo Zouharis of Marlboro, MA, Charles Limperis and wife Elizabeth of Tarpon Springs, FL, and sister-in-law Georgia Basdanes and husband Thomas of Lowell, MA.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 4 – 7 pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD, MA. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 27th at 10:00 am at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., LOWELL, MA. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery, LOWELL.
