Obituary for Nicholas M. Freitas

Nicholas M. “Nick” Freitas, age 58, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away unexpectedly at home in Chelmsford on Thursday, June 30, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Catherine “Cathy” (Ciarletto) Freitas with whom he enjoyed 32 years of marriage.

Nick was born in the Island of St. Michael in the Azores, Portugal on March 7, 1964 and was the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Moniz) Freitas.

Nick lived the essence of work hard, play hard. He was a jack of all trades, but a master in masonry and carpentry. As a builder, Nick elevated the quality of life for those he serviced. He provided the opportunity to watch dreams come to fulfillment with a dream home, dream kitchen, dream deck, hardscape and landscape. Nick left a lasting legacy with everything he created, to be admired forever; attributed by his inherent attention to detail and need for perfection.

Nick was also responsible for creating many of the joyous memories his son, Jacob, his daughter, Cidalia, many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends cherished. Life was filled with adventure and excitement; the camping trips, bonfires, THE 4th of July party, fireworks, beach volleyball, rides in the bed of the pickup, playing with heavy machinery, and CB radios! Some of his favorite ventures were; building Jake's room and Cidalia's bed. He enjoyed classical music, and lunch at a filling buffet, “China Buffet”. Nick would also never turn down the opportunity to take a longer than promised cruise on a motorcycle.

In addition to his loving wife Cathy, Nick is survived by his children; Jacob Freitas and Cidalia Freitas; his siblings, Joe Freitas and his wife, Mena, Goretti Freitas, Margaret Tavares and her husband, Luis, Maria Melo, Zach Freitas and his wife, Claudia, and the late Tony Freitas, survived by his wife, Mary. Nick is also survived by his uncle Jose Correia and his wife Maria, and lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.
