Obituary for Mary T. Ranelli (Lundergan)

Mary T. (Lundergan) Ranelli, 81, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus in Lowell on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy battle with Dementia.

Born in Cambridge, MA on April 4, 1941, where she also grew up, Mary was the daughter of the late Frederick and Anna (Walsh) Lundergan. She later became a longtime resident of both Waltham and Billerica.

In 1959 at the age of 18, Mary married the love of her life Gerardo “Jerry” Ranelli, who would go on to become a police officer in their hometown of Cambridge. They spent 47 wonderful years together until his untimely passing in 2006.

Mary worked as an Administrative Assistant and Bookkeeper for various companies including Controls for Automation and John Handcock until she had a family with Jerry and became a full-time homemaker. In her free time, she enjoyed taking ceramics classes, playing bingo, and would never pass up the opportunity to hit the casino for some fun. In later years, “Grandma” as she was named, continued her love for games by playing many favorites on her iPad, but her true joy was spending time with her family. She spent countless hours doing all kinds of things with her grandchildren Vinny and Elyse who both enriched her life and she loved so much (even more than her freezer full of ice cream treats). Mary’s antics often became the topic of jokes, but as long as everyone was laughing together, she never seemed to mind.

Mary was the loving mother of Carrie (Ranelli) Nardone and her husband Kenneth of Chelmsford and Gerardo “Jay” Ranelli Jr. and his wife Alexis (Conley) of West Bridgewater and Falmouth and beloved grandma of Vincent and Elyse Nardone. She is also survived by her sister Agnes Evans and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Gerardo E. Ranelli and her sisters Ellen Shea, Corrine Tuells, and Dorothy Harrison.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 13th from 9am to 11am at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford, her funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11am. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge at 1pm. Kindly gather at the gate.
