Mary (Lombardi) Malas, age 87, a longtime resident of Chelmsford (formerly of Billerica), passed away at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Somerville on January 25, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Carmella (Fusco) Lombardi.
Mary worked at Sears for many years and retired from Wausau Insurance Company. During her retirement she dedicated her time to family and friends. She loved playing with her grand and great-grandchildren, trips to the casino, Bingo, playing cards and her beloved Red Sox (win or lose). Her favorite games were SKIP BO and Trouble. But mostly, she loved talking to, supporting, and spending time with her family. Mary loved traveling, going on family vacations, spending time at the beach, and family celebrations.
Mary is survived by her five children: Kathleen and her husband Donald Simmons of Chelmsford, Debra Ann and her husband Robert San Soucie of Billerica, Joyce and her husband Stephen Desmond of Chelmsford, William Malas of Tewksbury and Richard Malas of Port Richey, FL. She was blessed with seven grandchildren who called her Grammy: Cory Simmons and his wife Melissa of Merrimack, NH, Robert San Soucie Jr and his wife Diane of Hudson, NH, Kristy Simmons and Norman Kennedy of Chelsea, Jeremy San Soucie and his wife Kristin of Billerica, Ross Desmond of Seattle, WA, Mindy Malas of Tewksbury, and Jessica Desmond of Chelmsford. She was lovingly known as Granana to her seven great-grandchildren: Emma, Dante, Cole and Cody San Soucie, Mikayla and Amanda Kennedy and Ashlyn Simmons. She leaves behind a sister-in-law Rose Malas, Karen (Donovan) Speziale, Susan and David Lombardi and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary is predeceased by Henry Malas, her five brothers Francis, Luigi, Salvatore, Emilio, and Cosmo Lombardi and her sister Marie Philomena (Dolly) Edly, her friend and sister-in-law Marion Donovan, her husband Lawrence, and her brother-in-law Walter Malas.
Her family would like to thank the Staff at Sunny Acres for loving and caring for Mary during her stay with them.
Mary was an incredibly special person, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all and remain in our hearts forever.
