Obituary for Mary F. Dobson (Fontes)
Mary F. (Fontes) Dobson, age 93, a resident of Lowell, formerly of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Lowell General Hospital - Saints Campus. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Dobson.
Mary was born in Chelmsford on August 4, 1928 and was a daughter of the late Antonio and Rita (Barboza) Fontes.
Mary attended Chelmsford Schools and later worked at Educator Biscuit Company in Lowell. Mary was an avid flower gardener. She created and maintained a large flower garden at her childhood home and came every Sunday to maintain the garden even when she did not live there. When in her own home, she spread color and love through her own yard with many flower beds and plants. She loved to beautify her space and loved to decorate. Bringing beauty and joy to others was very important to her. She had a tender heart for her cats as well.
Mary is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mary is predeceased by her son John J. Fontes who passed away in 2017, her sister Rita (Fontes) Locapo, and her brothers, Robert Fontes, Raymond Fontes and Richard “Dick” Fontes.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 5 – 7 pm in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 10, at 11:00 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
