Obituary for Lewis George Demetroulakos

Lewis George Demetroulakos, age 90, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 12, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Niki (Eonas) Demetroulakos with whom he shared 58 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2018.

He was born in Lowell on December 8, 1933 and was the son of the late George and Anastasia (Coronis) Demetroulakos.

Lewis was raised in the Pawtucketville neighborhood of Lowell, graduating from Lowell High School in 1951. While in school he worked part-time at the Demoulas Superette, and went on to become a 1957 graduate of the Mass College of Pharmacy. He proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1962, and eventually opened his own pharmacy, Lewis Drug, Inc., in the neighborhood where he was raised, serving his community for over 35 years. Never one to sit idly by Lew went on to graduate from the Mass School of Law in 1991, become a member of the American Bar Association at the age of 60 and went on to practice law for 29 years.

Lewis lived his life with dignity and honor, instilling in his family the values of hard work and integrity. He took pride in being a 32nd Degree Scottish Rites Mason. His passion was helping others and serving his community. Throughout his life, Lew served as president, vice president or board member for countless organizations, including serving as the President of Greater Lowell Boy’s Club, Saint John’s Nursing Home, the Visiting Nurses of Lowell, and Vice President of the Friends of Saint John’s Hospital, Member of the Board of Governors of St. Mary’s Church, Member of the Selective Service of Greater Lowell, lifetime member of the Men’s Guild of St. John’s Hospital, and Board of Directors of Catholic Charities. Lew and his wife Niki were the 2013 recipients of the Metropolis of Boston Ministry Award. For over 27 years, he proudly served as a member of the Parish Council, including a term as President, for the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, which church his grandfather helped put brick to mortar well over 100 years ago.

He will be deeply missed by his family and loved ones, Helene Demetroulakos and her fiancé Chaz Scoggins, George Demetroulakos and Maureen Bossi, Andrea and her husband Jeff Marcotte, Bibi and her husband Robert Di Serio, and his honorary son Kevin Gervais, Aleah Wiley and her husband Kory, Rachael Nichols, Kyle and Sydnie Lyons, Alexia Demetroulakos, Gianna Scaplen, Trevor, Rachel, and Derek Bossi. He is also survived by his Godson Russell Eonas and his many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Stella Morfiris and brother Telly Demetroulakos, and his in-laws, George and Beatrice (Bacos) Eonas.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 10 to 11 am at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell, immediately followed by his Funeral Service at 11 o'clock. Burial in Westlawn II Cemetery in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lew’s honor to The Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Greater Lowell, 657 Middlesex Street, Lowell, MA 01851, or the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell, MA 01854.
