Kyriakoulis “Charlie” Mereves, 92, a long-time resident of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly at Lowell General Hospital, on Sunday, October 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving children. He was the beloved husband of Martha (Bounakos) Mereves, with whom he would have celebrated their 67th anniversary on October 25, 2022.
He was born on April 24, 1930, in Gytheion, Laconia, Greece to the late Aristotelis and Dimitra (Mousoulis) Mereves, the fourth of six children. He was a Greek Army veteran.
In 1970, he immigrated with his wife and children to the USA, where they settled in Lowell. For several years he was employed by Lawrence May and Carrol Shoe companies. He later joined Market Basket in Tewksbury, where he loved seeing many friends and meeting new people. He was a member of the Pan-Laconian Association and an avid walker up until his later years.
He is survived by his wife Martha of Lowell; his daughters, Dimitra Kapetanakis and her husband George of Tewksbury, and Stella Mereves-Carolan and her husband John of Lowell, his son Aristotle Mereves and his wife Tracey of Chelmsford; and his four grandchildren, Sophia and Chloe Mereves and Christofer and Martha Kapetanakis, with whom he adored spending time. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mrs. Niki Ladakos of Tewksbury, and additional in-laws in Greece as well as several nieces and nephews, here, in Canada, and in Greece.
He is predeceased by all of his siblings.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St, Lowell. His funeral service will follow the visitation in church at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Lowell Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy, may be made in Kyriakoulis' honor to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell, MA 01854, the American Cancer Society at
