Obituary for Kevin Francis "Bud" McCarthy

Kevin F. "Bud" McCarthy, 70, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Theodora "Teddi" (Gawlinski) McCarthy with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

He was born in Medford on May 23, 1949 and was the son of the late Charles "Chick" and Dorothy (McNeill) McCarthy.

Bud was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1967. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War Era receiving the National Service Medal. Bud earned his Bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston in 1974 and his Masters in Education from UMass Lowell, in 1978. He retired from the North Andover school system where he taught history for many years. Bud was the soccer coach for the high school girls varsity team for 26 years. He was an avid fisherman, bird watcher, photographer, wildlife enthusiast, and animal lover. Bud was a known comedian and life of the party. His greatest joy came from time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Bud leaves his children; Keith McCarthy and his wife Kristin of Chelmsford, Kris McCarthy of Holden, and Kevin McCarthy and his wife Jessica of Nashua, NH, his grandchildren; Ava and Quinn McCarthy, his siblings; Steve McCarthy and spouse Jeff Lick of Old Chatham, NY, Janet Callahan of Scarborough, ME, Claire Campbell of Medford and Jeanne Manzi and her husband Robert of Mashpee. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He is sadly predeceased by his brother Lance Cpl. Edward C. McCarthy, USMC and his brother-in-law Jack Callahan Sr.

Services and interment will be held privately. A celebration of Bud’s life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Bud's memory to your local animal shelter.
