Obituary for Kathleen Anne Gallant (Murphy)

Kathleen A. (Murphy) Gallant, age 73, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, April 9, 2023. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Jeff Gallant with whom she enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage.

Kathleen was born in Medford, MA on March 29, 1950 and was the daughter of the late Russell and Janet (Brandt) Murphy.

She graduated from Bedford, MA High School in 1968. After high school, she attended Salem State College graduating with a degree in education. Like her mother, she proudly worked as an elementary school teacher in Bedford teaching for four decades before retiring in 2011.

Kathleen was a most generous and caring mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed making frequent trips to Cape Cod with her husband, reading, gardening and sharing a love of nature and animals. She treasured her family and friends, always encouraging and doing thoughtful things for others, especially the children in her life.

In addition to her husband, Kathleen is survived by her children, Jeffrey Gallant and his wife Leah of Dedham, and Scott Gallant and his wife Ashley of Chelmsford; her siblings, Bill Murphy and his wife Cindy of Charlestown, Jane Ballou and her husband Phil of Marstons Mills, and Janet Frenette and her husband Dana of New Smyrna Beach, FL. After raising two sons, nothing brought her more joy than her granddaughters, Caroline and Savannah.

Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, April 13th from 4pm to 7pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Funeral service and interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathleen’s memory to The Jimmy Fund or Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress.
