Obituary for Karl Gregory Aeder

WESTFORD- Karl Gregory Aeder, a 19-year resident of Westford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 13, 2018 with his wife, Andrea Weed, by his side.

Born on September 23, 1972 in Southampton, NY, he was an impressive baby who weighed 10.5 lbs and was 23.5 inches long. His parents, Gregory and Kathryn (Scott) Aeder did not realize their tiny bundle of joy was already the size of a three month old. Karl grew into a tall man who was easy to spot in a crowd.

Karl spent his earliest years in Long Island before moving to Massachusetts where he was raised in the communities of Westford, Bedford and Andover. He considered Andover his hometown because he graduated from Andover High in 1990 and had made his lifelong friends there.

Karl grew up with his younger siblings Sean, Glenn and Katie. Their parents instilled core values, a great work ethic and provided a wonderful example of a good marriage. Karl had wonderful family vacations that involved camping during his younger years. He had large, joyful Christmases with aunts, uncles and cousins. Skiing, especially at Sunday River, was a passion he shared with his family and friends throughout his lifetime. He discovered his love of kayaking on a impactful trip up the coast of Maine when he was 13.

After high school graduation, Karl sought a Software Engineering degree from the University of Vermont. Karl enjoyed Vermont’s mountains and lakes, the laid back attitude of Burlington and the time spent with his Alpha Tau Omega fraternity brothers, his friends from Brookes Avenue and his future bride.

With a degree in hand, Karl headed back to Massachusetts and worked at Avid Technology creating software for digital video editing systems. Karl was a founding member of Avid Sports, which created digital video editing systems for college and professional sport clubs. Their product drastically cut editing time for video staff and gave quick access to game video for coaches. Karl finished the last 18 years of his career as a Principal Senior Software Engineer at Foliage/Altran creating industrial and medical control systems. Karl loved jumping into complex problems and solving them.

Although Karl was dedicated to his work, the most important thing to him was his family. Karl left the house early every morning so he could be home at 5:30 for dinner with his children Vivian, Charlotte and Seth. With them, he shared his love of kayaking, skiing, golf, guitar playing, and math. He coached their soccer teams and organized U6 soccer for Westford. He was also a big supporter of his wife’s recreational ice hockey career. Karl accepted people for who they were, was dedicated to the people around him, was a hard worker and was always dependable. He made his family laugh and showered them with lots of love.
Karl will be lovingly remembered by Andrea, his wife of 22 years, and his children Vivian, Seth and Charlotte; his parents Gregory and Kathryn Aeder; brothers Sean (Jason Rohloff) and Glenn (Heather); sister Katherine (Anthony) Baker; mother-in-law Susan Weed; father-in-law Dean (Karen) Weed; brother-in-law Lance Weed; sister-in-laws Christine (Dennis) Wojcik, Lindsey Weed and Jenna Weed and his dear aunts, uncles, cousins and 14 nieces and nephews. Karl was predeceased by his brother-in-law Kyle Weed and his grandparents.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.

A Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 am.

Interment will be held privately.
