Judith May “Judy” (Floyd) Hill, 85, a longtime Chelmsford resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. She succumbed to her lengthy challenge with heart failure at High Pointe Hospice House, where her loving family remained vigil. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard L. Hill.

Judy was born on May 22, 1935 in Arlington, MA, and was a daughter of the late Ernest Floyd and Elva (Whittaker) Floyd O’Brien. She moved to Chelmsford in 1967. She still lived in the same home she raised her family. Judy worked as Librarian at the Charles D. Harrington School for 37 years. She loved working in her vegetable garden, bird watching, reading books, trips to Maine and volunteering with friends at the Stoneham Theatre.

She is survived by her sons; Stephen Hill and his wife Tina of West Springfield and Jeffrey Hill and his partner Eileen Brickey of Billerica, her daughter, Leslie Peterson of Billerica. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Sadly, she is predeceased by both of her siblings.

Due to gathering limitations, Funeral Services and Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Judy’s name to Chelmsford Friends of the Library 25 Boston Rd. Chelmsford, MA 01824 or

I worked with Judy at Harrington many years ago. As everyone has said, she was a delightful lady to know. Heaven has truly welcomed a new angel.
My deepest condolences go out to Judy's children; you were blessed to have her as your mom.

As a long timer at Harrington School, it always made my day meeting Judy in the halls, or in the Library, her "Happy" place. Always laughing, always kindhearted, polite and caring. I am honored to have crossed paths with you, and remember those times fondly. Also enjoyed those times, we both would run into each other, in one of your favorite stores! Godspeed, Judy. To your children, my deepest condolences.. I lost my dad on Feb. 9, just a month to the date, Judy was called home. Heaven, gained 2 new Angels. May your memories sustain you, and may your mom be a shining light to all those above, with her stories, and laughter.

I was so saddened to learn of Judy's passing. I used to volunteer at Harrington in the library and so enjoyed working with her. Judy had the most cheerful personality and a warmth about her that few people possess. She had a gift of connecting with all of the children and they clearly loved her. To the Hill family, please accept my deepest sympathy.
