Obituary for Jonathan C. Graves

Jonathan C. Graves, 68, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May the Fourth, 2021. He was the husband of Susan (Spiegel) Graves with whom he has shared 43 years (35 married).

He was born in Tucson, Arizona on April 13, 1953 and was the son of the late Robert Sr. and Jean (Clarke) Graves.
Jon was raised in Bayside, NY and moved to Newton, MA where he graduated from Newton North High School, class of 1971. He attended Berklee College of Music and received an Associates Degree from Newton Jr. College. He was employed at the Fernald Developmental Center in Waltham for 33 years until his retirement. He and Susan met there early in their careers. Jon enjoyed music — he loved playing the guitar — family gatherings, movies, cats, sci-fi, Christmas, and cherished time spent with his girls and their friends.

Jon is survived by his daughters, Anna Graves of Chelmsford and Rebecca Boisvert and her husband Timothy of Chelmsford; his siblings, Robert Graves Jr. and Charles Graves; his brother by choice, Sam Mendales; his nieces and nephews, Lauren Singh, Samantha Graves, Zachary Azoulay, Maia Vergara, Avi Azoulay, and Caleb Spiegel; his “nephews” Ben, Jake and Ezra Mendales; his 4 great nephews and 1 great niece. He is sadly predeceased by his brother Fred Graves.

Celebration of Life will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jon’s honor can be made to your favorite charity or consider a charity involving his love of music, cats, his desire to cure Lupus, or Care Dimensions.

The family wishes to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support during the past few weeks.
