Obituary for John C Taylor

John Collett Taylor (“Jack”), age 93, a resident of Chelmsford and former longtime resident of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, died Friday, October 26, 2018 at his home following a long and fulfilling life. He was the husband of his beloved wife Joan C. Taylor, to whom he was married for 63 years until her death in 2014.

He was born in Jeannette, PA on January 20, 1925, he was the third of four children of the late Philip and Mildred Taylor. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees (Chemical Engineering) from Pennsylvania State University. After retiring, he was recruited by NASA to analyze the plastics to be used in the space station.

He loved and was loved deeply by his family. This love extended to others throughout his life. He was active in his church, in civil rights, with Junior Achievement in inner-city Cleveland schools, and created a loan program for the poor in the neighboring Chagrin Falls Park. Upon retirement, Jack, with Joan, housed a college student from Ghana, took in four teenage foster children, and spent endless hours volunteering at an impoverished westside Cleveland church tutoring and doing much of the maintenance into his 80's. On top of all of that, he was instrumental in building over thirty Habitat for Humanity homes. He always made time for others.

Jack is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Janis Taylor of Chelmsford and Stephen and Ellen Taylor of Ann Arbor, MI; five grandchildren, Rebecca and her husband Gregory Kulah of Chelmsford, Anne and her husband Gregory Khirallah of Beverly, MA, Daniel Taylor and his wife Claire of Baltimore, MD, Leah Taylor and fiancé Bryan West of Ithaca, NY, and Jonathan Taylor of Hamtramck, MI; five great grandchildren, Hailey and Sayah Kulah, Desmond and Scott Khirallah, and Benjamin Taylor; a sister Margaret Stough, a sister-in-law and brother-in law, Bettina and Robert Sechrest; and additional nieces and nephews.

He was also the grandfather of the late William Taylor and the brother of the late Barbara Evans and Donald Taylor.

A reception with light refreshments will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday, November 8th followed by a Memorial Service at 10 o'clock at Immanuel Church, 301 Boston Road (Rt. 4), Chelmsford, MA 01824.
