Obituary for John J. Spanos

John J. Spanos, age 92, a resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Saturday, May 11, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Georgia N. (Psaltas) Spanos.

John was born in Lowell on November 16, 1931 and was the son of the late James J. and Peristera (Lantas) Spanos. He was a lifelong resident of Chelmsford; both at the family produce farm and his home where he lived for over 65 years.

He was a member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell. John was also a US Army veteran having served his country during the Korean War.

Alongside his wife Georgia and son Michael, they built a successful flower business in Westford where they worked together until his retirement in 2004. John loved cooking, spending time at home with family, afternoons at Wallis Sands beach and the occasional trip to Mohegan Sun Casino. John was an avid gardener and looked forward to each spring planting season. He was a model example of a father and husband and will be missed dearly.

In addition to his loving wife Georgia, he is survived by sons Gregory, Michael and partner Danielle, Philip; and Nicholas and wife Lisa; grandchildren Julian and Cameron Spanos; Andrew, Christina Spanos Schaffer, Peter, Sam, Drew and Sophie Spanos; Erika, Jamie and Hillary Spanos; Alex and Christopher Spanos; and great grandchildren Kate, Ava, Emma, Charlee and George. He also leaves his sister, Nancy Papachristos.

Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, from 5-7 pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 o’clock at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, Lowell. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
