Obituary for Joanne S. Snook (Stevenson)

Joanne S. (Stevenson) Snook, 87, a resident of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Salem, MA on May 17, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Reverend Joseph A. Stevenson and Helen (Colby) Stevenson.

Since her father was a pastor, Joanne and her brother Alan grew up living in parsonages all around Massachusetts. Those childhood memories were among some of her favorites. Joanne graduated from Everett High School and went on to get a business certificate at the Chandler School for Women in Boston, MA. She married Roland D. Snook, and they raised their three children in Melrose, MA. She had a career she loved as a Benefits Administrator at Melrose Wakefield Hospital where she retired in 2000. In her retirement, she became a Shine Counselor for the Lowell Senior Center assisting the elderly in their health insurance issues. She also volunteered with the Personnel Committee of the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church. Joanne worked part-time as the Administrative Assistant for Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Chelmsford, MA and became an active member of that church. There she led a Prayer Shawl ministry and Prayer Partner ministry, actively participated in church services, served on committees, and taught classes. Her church family meant so much to her. She loved to knit and enjoyed making hats, scarfs, and shawls for the church fair and for family and friends. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and her grand pets, especially Maggie.

Joanne leaves her children, Timothy Snook and his wife Dorothy of Manchester, NH, David Snook and his wife Karen of Eliot, ME, and Jennifer Ganas and her husband Robert of Hudson, NH; her brother Alan Stevenson and his wife Carol of Melrose, MA; her grandchildren, Amanda Beyea, Cassandra Vortesveld, Zachary Snook, Heather Snook, Brandon Ganas and Olivia Ganas; her great grandchildren, Coleman, Indira, Adler, Lucy, Johannah, Maxwell, Aubrey, Emerson and Elliot. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends Marcia Wengen and Maisie Stevenson.

She is predeceased by her father, Rev. Joseph A. Stevenson and mother, Helen (Colby) Stevenson, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Her Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 11 am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 242 Boston Rd., Chelmsford. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in support of their Christian education program and Dana Farber Cancer Institute at dana-farber.org.
