Obituary for Joan E. Miller (Simpson)

Joan E. Miller, a Florida resident since the 1970's, passed away January 10, 2022. Joan was born on June 15, 1934 to the late James and Kathrine (Clark) Simpson of Chelmsford, MA where she was one of ten children. She resided in Massachusetts until relocating to Florida, where she remained until her passing.

Joan retired from the Pinellas County School system, where she held a variety of positions at their county offices. After retiring Joan was able to pursue her life-long love for crafting and quilting. She leaves behind a legacy of beautiful quilts that she created and gifted to her family, including her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an active member of the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club quilters club of San Antonio, FL who donated baby quilts for new single moms.

Joan is predeceased by her eldest son, Mark Bliss Talty and her grandson, Jonathan Henry Talty. She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Kim T. Ellis and Scott H. Ellis from Port Orange, FL and her son Cole Alan Talty from Tampa, FL. She is also survived by her sisters Dorethea Marinel of Tyngsboro, MA, Jacquline Goodie of Virginia, Carole Simpson of Largo, FL, and Georgia Maher of Rohnert Park, CA and her brother Allen Simpson and his wife Kathy from Maine. Joan is also survived by six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered with love and fondness by her family and many friends that she made along her journey through life.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11:00 am at Heart Pond Cemetery, 14 Garrison Rd., Chelmsford. Following the graveside service, there will be a luncheon provided. There will be a memory table if you would like to bring some item you might have that reminds you of Joan, maybe a picture or an item she might have made or just a story.
