Obituary for Janice M. Kelly (Griffin)
Janice M. (Griffin) Kelly, age 85, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, February 20, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas B. Kelly with whom she enjoyed one and a half years of marriage. She was also previously married to the late William F. Moran with whom she enjoyed 39 years of marriage together.
Janice was born in Lowell on June 4, 1937 and was the daughter of the late James F. and Mary R. (Muldoon) Griffin. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1954 and went on to work for New England Telephone & Telegraph where she met her first husband. After having children, she was employed as a bookkeeper for many years at American Mason Safety Tread in Lowell until her retirement. Janice loved to spend her winters in Juno Beach and enjoyed being with family and friends. Her times on the Happy Bus with her classmates from Club 54 gave her many laughs and memories.
Janice was a devoted mother to her 3 sons, William J. Moran and his wife Susan of Marco Island, FL, Kevin Moran and his companion Carol Johnson of Okeechobee, FL, and Michael E. Moran and his wife Gayle of Chelmsford. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Megan Gagnon, Casey Kemper, Sean Moran, Alexandra Moran and Bryan Moran; 3 great-grandchildren, Gavin Shimp, Brady Gagnon and Charlie Gagnon; her sister-in-law, Dorothy (Moran) Toth; and several nieces and nephews.
Janice was predeceased by her two sisters, Donna Carmichael and Mary Lou Samowski.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 25th from 11am to 12:30pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following visitation at 1pm at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
