Obituary for Janice E. Hipson (Burton)

Janice E. (Burton) Hipson, 86, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at D’Youville Senior Care in Lowell on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the beloved wife and high school sweetheart of the late John Hipson, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.

Born in Waltham on August 23, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Ruth (Brickhill) Burton.

Jan’s true loves were her family, as well as keeping a beautiful home, a lovely yard and traveling with John. Her holiday meals and summer cookouts were amazing and delicious. Her potato salad and turkey stuffing are legendary. She always had a warm and heart-felt welcome to all that came through her front door, whether two-legged or four-legged. She was a caring shoulder to cry on, or the most enthusiastic voice of encouragement. A life-long Red Sox fan, she could be counted on for spirited and comical commentary while watching their games on TV. Janice was always up for a walk at Great Brook Farm and spent many hours there with her family and her dogs. Jan enjoyed a 20-year career as a secretary at Honeywell. She was a deeply loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law.

Janice is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Tyrell and her husband Peter of Clinton, CT, Karen Langathianos of Dracut, and Cynthia Hipson and her husband Steven Talevi of Enfield, CT; her granddaughters, Melissa Langathianos of Dracut, Kristen Langathianos of Dracut and Lauren Tyrell of Santa Ana, CA; and her great grandchildren Noah and Mia. She also leaves her nephews, Michael, Russell and Allan Litchfield and David and Jeffrey Farnworth, and her sister-in-law Judith Farnworth. She is predeceased by her sister Shirley O’Kane.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 5 – 7pm in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, October 21, at 11:00. Interment to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
