Obituary for Janet M Lucente (Curran)

Janet M. Lucente, a resident of Chelmsford, formerly of Milton, Brockton and Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. She was eighty years old. She was the beloved wife of the late George L. Lucente, who died in 2017.

She was born in Boston, daughter of the late James E. and Ruth M. (FitzGerald) Curran. She was raised in Milton and was a 1956 graduate of Milton High School. In her younger years, Janet was an accomplished violinist who was selected to represent her school in statewide orchestra competitions. After graduation, she pursued secretarial studies in Boston.

Janet had a flair for adventure. She earned her pilot’s license as a young adult and later, co-piloted a cargo plane carrying lobsters to Boston from Maine and Newfoundland. Her greatest adventure began when she married her late husband, George, in 1966, and began raising their family together in Brockton. She spent these years working in insurance, real estate and as an ophthalmic assistant. Janet and George later moved to the Fort Myers area in Florida before settling in Chelmsford over twenty years ago.

Janet’s hobbies reflected her skill in all types of needlework and crafts, including sewing, quilting, braiding rugs, knitting and crochet. She was an avid knitter with friends at the Chelmsford Senior Center, and created many handmade gifts that will be treasured in memory of her.

Janet is survived by her four children: Yvonne Hart and her husband, David, of Michigan; Clare Jeannotte and her husband, Brian, of Chelmsford; Janet O'Donnell and her husband, Skip, of Bridgewater; and Geoffrey Lucente and his wife, Katie, of Chelmsford. She was the loving grandmother of Jonathan, Matthew, Alyssa, Emily, Karen, Cristen, Meghan, Sean and Sophia; seven great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Janet was predeceased by her sister, Clare R. Curran, and leaves her brothers, Edward A. Curran and his wife Patricia of Woodstock, Connecticut and James L. Curran and his wife Sarah of Randolph.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, May 1st from 4 to 7 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 2nd at 11 o'clock at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment will follow at Heart Pond Cemetery, Chelmsford.
