Obituary for Janet E. Barsorian (Costello)

Janet E. (Costello) Barsorian, age 80, a longtime resident of Lowell, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Saturday, May 7, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late William Barsorian.

She was born in Lowell on April 2, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Katheryn (Sparks) Costello.

Janet was a graduate of Lowell High School and a communicant of Saint Margaret’s Church in Lowell. Janet and her husband Bill owned Lorry’s Bar BQ, in the Lowell Highlands section for over 35 years. After her retirement from the restaurant business, she decided to dedicate her time to making a difference for those in need. Janet’s passion was about providing the highest food quality to the homeless. Janet worked as the Food Service Director and “goodwill ambassador” for The Lowell Transitional Living Center, until her retirement. Her dedication came naturally in providing nutritious meals for those dealing with food insecurities in the community. The key to her success was her resourcefulness in seeking out organizations and businesses to feed as many people as she could. She was the ultimate influencer. Through her “can do” attitude, likability and great humor, she was instrumental in helping people find housing, baby-sitting needs, pet care, rides for treatments, as well as connecting those to much-needed resources. She wanted to make a difference and be a part of the solution. Janet served on the Lowell Hunger Homeless Committee and was one of the recipients honored as part of Lowell Women’s Week in 2011 for her commitment above and beyond her job.

Janet is survived by her daughter Janet, daughter-in-law Kristin Barsorian of Nashua NH, her daughter Lynne, son-in-law Howard Lipinsky of Carlisle, her beloved granddaughters Clarissa and Eliza, her longtime dear friend Fausto DeOliveira of Lowell. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son William “Billy” Barsorian and her husband William “Bill” Barsorian.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 12th from 5pm to 7pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Funeral Service will be on Friday, May 13th at 10am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
