Obituary for Jane E. Shaughnessy (McLaughlin)
Jane E. (McLaughlin) Shaughnessy, age 80, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 with her loving husband by her side. She was a resident of Nashua NH, formerly of Tyngsboro, MA and Pelham, NH. Jane was the beloved wife of Paul V. Shaughnessy with whom she enjoyed 60 years of marriage.
She was born in Lowell, MA on October 27, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Harold and Estelle (Emond) McLaughlin.
Jane was a graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro class of 1960. She had such a deep love for that school that she joined the alumni committee for years after. Soon after graduating, she went on to work as a secretary at Union National Bank where she met Paul. He says it was love at first sight on that first day he opened the door for her. Paul was sure to arrive early as not to miss her. They married in 1963. Their biggest joy in life was their family.
With Jane’s love of children and generous heart she volunteered at Lowell General Hospital as a cuddler in the nursery for many years. She was involved with many of the fundraising events for the hospital.
Jane had so many wonderful friends whom she absolutely cherished and adored. Her longest standing group of friends is from high school. They called themselves “The Delightful Dozen”.
In addition to her loving husband, Jane is survived by her four children, John J. Shaughnessy and his wife Donna (Tully) of Dunstable, MA, James R. Shaughnessy and his wife Rebecca (Sargent) of Derry, NH, Susan J. (Shaughnessy) Flanders and her husband Bruce of Merrimack, NH, and Michael P. Shaughnessy and his wife Lisa (Perham) of Hudson, NH; her seven grandchildren, Timothy, Kyle, Nicole, Ricky, Amanda, Cailey, and Lacey; her great-granddaughters, Alexys and little Madison Jane; and her sister, Karen P. (McLaughlin) Lepore of North Conway, NH. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Michael H. McLaughlin.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 1:30 at St. Joseph Cemetery, 96 Riverneck Road, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jane’s memory to the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro at ndatyngsboro.org.
