Obituary for James P. "Jim" Lucas

James P. Lucas, age 67, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at Lahey Hospital in Burlington on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, with his wife at his bedside. He was the beloved husband of Debra A. (Kelly) Lucas; they were together for 48 years, which included 35 years of marriage.

He was born in Methuen on June 21,1954 and was the son of the late Leonard J. and Claire R. (Hart) Lucas. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1973 and was first employed by Design Research in Cambridge. He joined the Technology Division at Cabot Corporation in Billerica as a Mail Clerk where he met his wife. He transferred to Tuscola, Illinois, and returned to Billerica a year later. He spent the next 28 years working for the Town of Billerica at the Wastewater Plant until his retirement in 2017.

Jim lived in Chelmsford since 1983 and enjoyed landscaping. He was content working in the yard and his family had a difficult time getting him to come in for dinner - except when he was cooking on the grill. Jim enjoyed playing sports, loved running and all things Boston sports related. In his younger days, he enjoyed camping, hiking and swimming in their backyard pool.

Jim is survived by his two daughters: Nicole A. Lucas and Amanda T. Glick (Lucas). Nicole and her fiancé, Steve Zurkey, currently reside in South Carolina and Amanda (“Mindy”) and her husband, Scott Glick, live in Nashua, New Hampshire.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Jim is survived by his brother, Leonard Lucas and his wife, Margaret; his sisters Sandra Lucas and her spouse Judith Donahue and Linda Heinz and her husband, Richard.

He is predeceased by both his parents and his two brothers, Robert (“Cy”) Lucas and Richard (“Rich”) Lucas. Both brothers are survived by their wives, Geraldine Lucas and Cathy Lucas respectively.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 15th from 4pm to 6pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Funeral Service and Interment will be held privately.
