Obituary for Harry Herzog Conover Jr.

Harry H. Conover, Jr., age 82, of Chelmsford, MA passed away at the Hunt Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Danvers on Thursday evening, August 20th.
Born to Jeannette (Woodhead) and Harry H. Conover, Sr. on March 31st, 1938, Harry enjoyed a classic American boyhood in Bordentown and Burlington, NJ. He spoke often of his Delaware River adventures, explorations at the nearby Bonaparte Estate, and his first job at App’s Hardware Store, Harry always had a good story to share about his many aunts and uncles, even recalling pleasant times at his grandmother’s house, with its big bay windows, up until his last days.
Harry came of age during what some feel was the “golden” decade of the twentieth century - the 50’s. During this time, he pursued and mastered a variety of skills, including radio operation (he knew morse code!), amateur magic, and pyrotechnics.
It was toward the end of this idyllic period that he met the love of his life, Ms. Sandra Jeanne Hall, on a blind date. It was a match, and the two were married in 1959. They went on to raise three children together.
Harry’s high intellect was something about which he and his family took great pride. He obtained a degree in Physics from Philadelphia’s Drexel Tech, and from there, wore many hats in his long and colorful career. Although he preferred to work for himself (he had his own fireworks factory, and a printed circuit shop during the 60’s), he also held interesting engineering positions right up until his retirement at companies like Eastman Kodak, General Railway Signal, and Raytheon. Harry’s problem-solving skills and ability to fix ANYTHING, often by unconventional or perhaps magical means, were legend amongst his colleagues and family.
He had a quirky personality and sense of humor, loved to cook, and adored music (especially opera), even endeavoring to learn to play the cello at age 80.
Harry and his special magic and ways will be sorely missed by all who loved him.

Harry is predeceased by his parents, and also by his wife, Sandy. He is survived by his three children Robert Conover (Ashley) of Keller, TX, Susan Conover Maza (Hakim) of Gloucester, MA, and Laura Conover (James Murphy) of Nashua, NH, a grandson, Edward Conover of Keller, TX, and his brother Richard Conover (Francine) of Dover, DE.
