Obituary for Harriet Adele Decatur (Stephen)

Harriet Adele Decatur, 88, a longtime resident of Burlington, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington. She was the beloved wife of the late Russell F. Decatur with whom she enjoyed 64 years of marriage prior to his death in 2017.

She was born in Buffalo, NY on September 9, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Edward and Madeline (Hankinson) Stephen.

Harriet worked for many years in the offices of insurance companies. Earlier in their life Harriet and Russell rode motorcycles together and tried always to maintain her independent spirit. In their spare time she enjoyed traveling with her husband and collecting glass for her Heisy collection. She was especially fond of working in her many gardens and did so until her passing.

Harriet is survived by her nieces and nephews; Robin Dunn and her husband Stephen of Richmond, NH, Gail Schlegelmilch and her husband Harry of Leominster, and Barry Ohs and his wife Marcy of Carlisle. Harriet was preceded in death by her sister Madeline Ohs Sloan.

It being her wish, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 9, at 1:30 pm at Fairview Cemetery, Main St., Westford. Donations may be made in her name to the Perkins School for the Blind.
