Obituary for Gretchen Jean Dick (Tice)

Gretchen Jean (Tice) Dick, age 72, a longtime resident of Westford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Emerson Hospital, Concord, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Brookline on September 29, 1950, and was a daughter of the late Benjamin Kent and Tess (Hennessy) Tice.

She spent her early childhood in San Leandro and Pomona, CA before moving back to Massachusetts in 1958 where her family resided in Winchester. She moved to Framingham in 1960 and settled in Bedford in 1963. Gretchen graduated from Bedford High School with the Class of 1968. After graduation, she married Paul Dick in June 1969. Their first child, Benjamin, was born in Concord in July 1976, followed by their son, William in 1977 and their daughter, Sarah in 1980.

Gretchen was a homemaker during the kids’ elementary school years and then spent many years in the Bedford School System as an elementary school teacher. During this time, she earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University in Cambridge.

Gretchen was an avid reader, enjoyed working on puzzles, and loved spending time at the beach walking the shores looking for seashells and sea glass. She loved cooking and baking and passed many of her recipes onto her children so that they could live on through the generations. Her true passion later in life was spending time with her grandchildren, pampering them the way only grandmothers can do and creating customized birthday cakes and cards.

Gretchen leaves her children, Benjamin Dick and his wife Kristen of North Andover, Will Finley and Jennifer Bouchard of Hamilton, and Sarah Dick of Westford. She also leaves behind her brother, Bill Tice and his wife Susan of Scituate, her 5 grandchildren, Quinn Dick, Connor Dick, Gavin Dick, Liam Bouchard and Ella Bouchard, and many nieces and nephews. Sadly, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Mackenzie Anne Dick.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 4 – 7 pm in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Funeral services and interment will be held privately. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Minute Man ARC, Concord, MA at minutemanarc.org.
