Obituary for George I. "Nick" Daley

George I. “Nick” Daley, age 91, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Thursday, December 22, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Phalon) Daley with whom he enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

He was born in Malden on December 6, 1931 and was the son of the late John and Lillian (Dorrance) Daley.

Nick was raised by his grandmother whom he affectionately called “Ma”. He attended parochial school and then went on to graduate from Malden High. He was part of the Drum and Bugle Corp in which he played the drums. After high school he worked as a machinist and followed in his brother’s footsteps by enlisting in the service. While serving in the United States Marines during the Korean War, he worked as a water filtration specialist. He received several medals and completed his service with an honorable discharge.

After the War, he worked at Murry Printing as a printer and met the love of his life Barbara. They settled in Chelmsford, where they began their adventurous life along with their partners in crime Shirley, Bob, Helen and Gail. They loved to eat at different restaurants, travel the scenic routes in New England and throughout the country.

Family was always important to Nick and he showed this through his loving generous spirit. He had a great sense of humor and never spoke a bad word about anything. Always a gentleman, dressed to perfection, his smile could light up a room. He will be greatly missed by everyone that was lucky enough to know him.

Nick is survived by his nieces and nephews, Linda and her husband Jeff Raffaelo of Chelmsford, Pat Kulka and her husband Steve of Wilmington, Ken McTighe and his wife Phyllis of Haverhill, John McTighe and his partner MaryAnn Benedetto of Woburn, Steve Phalon and his wife Carol of Corpus Christi, TX, and Susan McTighe of Rockport. He also leaves behind many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother John Jeremiah “Jack” Daley, Jr., and his nephew Robert McTighe.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 28th from 4pm to 7pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11am at Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
