TEWKSBURY-On December 14th, Evangeline (Karas) Relias of Tewksbury passed away at the age of 87 after a brief illness.
She was the beloved wife of Fotis “Fritz” T. Relias for 62 years. They raised 3 daughters, Mrs. Anne Brennan of Tewksbury, Dr. Valerie Relias of Arlington, and Mrs. Kathleen Powers of Methuen.
Born in 1933 in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Vasiliki and Vaios Karas. She received a Bachelor of Science from The Lowell State Teacher’s College and a Master’s in Education from the University of Lowell. She taught for over 25 years in the Lowell Public School System where she touched the lives of countless children. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell, the Holy Trinity Ladies Philoptochos Society, and the Daughters of Penelope.
Eve was a voracious reader and loved going out every Saturday for lunch with her family, never wanting to miss any gossip or letting anyone else in the family pay for lunch.
Along with her husband and children, Evangeline is survived by her brother Nicholas V. Karas and nephews Victor, Christopher and Jonathan Karas; two sons-in-law, Ronald Brennan and Edwin Powers, her grandchildren Dr. Gregory Brennan and his wife Casey of Mansfield, Texas; Dr. Christopher Brennan of Somerville; Ms. Lucy Powers and Mr. Charles Powers of Methuen. She is also survived by her great granddaughter Lily Elizabeth Brennan.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no visiting hours. Her funeral will take place at the HOLY TRINITY GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 62 Lewis Street, Lowell on Friday, December 18th at 11 o’clock. Kindly meet at the church. Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell, MA 01854.
