Obituary for Ethel M. Chancey (Sayer)

Ethel M. (Sayer) Chancey, 100, a resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Westford House surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Chancey with whom she shared 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2011.

She was born in Lowell on March 7, 1923, and was a daughter of the late Alfred and Annie V. (Anderson) Sayer.

Ethel was raised in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School. She worked in the banking industry as a head teller from 1969 – 1985 at Union National Bank. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and cooking delicious meals for her family. Most of all, Ethel cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Ethel leaves her daughters, Pamela Bandini and her husband Daniel of South Dennis, Melanie Doyle and her husband Paul of Milford, NH, Cindy Chancey of Chelmsford, and Joanne McCarthy of Nashua, NH; her grandchildren, Meghan Pstragowski and her husband Stephen of Amherst, NH, Brittney Doyle of Bedford, NH, and Evan Doyle of Salem, NH; her great-grandchildren, Nolan and Ella Pstragowski; and her sisters-in-law, Mildred “Millie” Sayer and Mary “May” Sayer. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sadly, she is predeceased by her brothers, Norman Sayer, Alfred Sayer and his wife Rita, and John Sayer, and her sisters, Alice Winters and her husband James, and Rose Routhier and her husband Henry.

Ethel’s family would like to thank the staff at Westford House, Compassus Hospice, and her doctors for their dedication and care.

Honoring Ethel’s wishes, funeral services and interment were held privately.
