Obituary for Doris M. Wheeler

Doris M. Wheeler, 91, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Lowell on August 8, 1932 and was a daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Corr) Wheeler.

Doris was raised in Chelmsford and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School with the Class of 1952. She started working at Kresge’s candy counter in Lowell before moving on to the bakery at Purity Supreme until her retirement from Stop and Shop. She was a great friend to the Chelmsford Police and Fire Departments. For many years she delivered cakes to “her boys” at both departments. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church, volunteering in the choir and the women’s group. She continued her membership in recent years at Journey Church on the Common, and was an active participant in the Smith Street Community. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to Vermont and New Hampshire.

Doris leaves her nephews, Charles LaRock, Jr. of Chelmsford, Richard LaRock and his wife Lu of Hudson, NH; her nieces Marcia Walsh and her husband Tom of Tyngsborough and Sheila Wheeler of Lowell. She is also survived by several grandnieces, grandnephews, and great grandnieces and great grandnephews.

Sadly, she was predeceased by her brother Albert Wheeler and her sister Mildred LaRock.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 am at Journey Church on the Common, 9 Academy St., Chelmsford. KINDLY GATHER AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
