Obituary for Doris Ellen Miller (Vradenburg)

Doris E. (Vradenburg) Miller, longtime Chelmsford resident, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Col (Ret) William J. Miller, Jr. with whom she enjoyed 57 years of marriage before his death in 2015.

Doris was born in Schenectady, NY to the late James and Gladys (Downes) Vradenburg on October 21, 1935. Doris and Bill traveled the world with the Air Force, living in Long Island, NY, Florida, Illinois, England, Greece, Mississippi, California, Ohio, Texas, Belgium, and Massachusetts.

Doris earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the State University of New York College for Teachers at Albany. She worked as a teacher, a substitute, and as a tutor in New York, Florida, and Massachusetts, teaching both English and Mathematics at the middle school and high school levels. Doris was an active member and volunteer at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Chelmsford, where she taught Sunday School, enjoyed bible study, and worked as the Church School Coordinator. Doris was also active in the Officers’ Wives Club. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed cooking and entertaining, antiquing, reading, going to shows and on cruises with her husband, playing bridge, and boating on the Mohawk River. Above all, she cherished the time spent in the company of her loving family.

Doris is survived by her two children; Dr. James Miller and his wife Sharon of Clifton Park, NY, Mary Ellen Braks and her husband Andrew of Spokane, WA, and her five grandchildren; Nathan, William, and Emma Braks, and Madeline and Charlotte Miller.

Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, November 6, from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, at 10 am at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 242 Boston Rd., Chelmsford.

Interment will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY, on Thursday, November 8, at 12:00 noon.
