Obituary for Diane M. Thorne (Theriault)

Diane M. (Theriault) Thorne, age 73, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston on Saturday, February 11, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Thorne with whom she enjoyed 10 years of blissful marriage.

She was born in Lowell on February 2, 1950 and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ethel (Simpson) Theriault.

Diane attended McFarlin and Chelmsford Jr. High School and graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, MA in 1967. She went on to earn her Associate Degree as a Legal Secretary from the Andover Institute of Business in 1969. Diane went on to become an Executive Admin for the C-Suite at well-known companies like Raytheon and Symantic Software.

More than anything, Diane was a devoted mother. There was nothing that brought her more joy than dotting on her only daughter and grandson. She loved buying all the “gifts” moms buy. Always thinking of the little things one would need throughout life, that you may never have thought of yourself. That was part of her magic.

Diane also loved being by the water. Whether it be by the lake in Maine or the ocean in Rhode Island, as long as she was surrounded by the sea, she was happy. She had a love for Reggae and 70’s disco music and was known to be caught dancing after hours at the Hong & Kong Restaurant, where she worked for many years as a waitress.

Diane is survived by her adoring daughter, Maegan (Eng) Kopka and her husband, Kris Kopka; her loving grandson, Brady Kopka of Warwick, RI; her niece (and second daughter), Jennifer Theriault of Chelmsford; her other grandchildren, Kiara Gingras and Ryan Gingras; and her brother, Richard Theriault and sister-in-law, Vivian Theriault of St. Cloud, FL.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 17th from 8:30am to 10:30am at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford followed by her funeral service at the funeral home at 11am. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford.
