Obituary for David R. Freeman

David Freeman passed away October 29th with his wife, Ruth, by his side.

David was the eldest of Raymond and Elrene (Manning) Freeman's three sons.

David leaves behind his wife Ruth with whom he celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in September but spent nearly 50 years with.
He also leaves his three children; Kristin and her husband Manny Perrotta of Walnut Creek, CA, Katrina Freeman of Lowell and John and his wife Gabrielle of Seattle, WA, a brother James Freeman and his wife Jeanmarie, and two grandchildren; Vincenzo and Mariella Perrotta.

He also leaves behind three great friends with whom he had many adventures and laughs; Donald Randall and his wife Carol of Roxbury, VT, John R. Cash and his wife Dee of Cartersville, GA and Jerry Chastain and his wife Iola of Monroe, GA.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his infant brother Douglas Freeman.

David wore many hats in his lifetime. After graduating from Chelmsford High School, he would enlist in the U.S. Army where he served with the 3rd squadron 17th Air Cav as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War. It was during that time he met and got into mischief with his southern brothers John and Jerry. He would keep their friendship for over 50 years close to his heart. Vietnam was also where David--like so many enlisted servicemen--was exposed to agent orange. It would be nearly 50 years to the day but David would again go to war as he battled the effects of exposure to agent orange---just as other Vietnam Veterans have done and will continue to do.

After his service to his flag and country, David would work by his father's side as a plumber for a number of years, later joining and retiring as a Lowell Police Officer.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 1st from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford.

A graveside service will be held on Friday November 2nd at 10 am at Pine Ridge Cemetery, 130 Billerica Road, Chelmsford.

In lieu of flowers, you can honor David with a donation made to the DAV or any other veteran's organization that works to preserve the memory of all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the freedoms of our great country.
